Accept Payments Page
Increasing Wix Payments adoption across the payment connection journey
Overview
The payment connection journey is where users begin setting up how they will accept payments on their Wix site. This work focused on improving key touchpoints across that journey, including the Accept Payments page, the Payments Dashboard, and the Payments Manage area. The goal was to help more users connect Wix Payments, better understand their account status, and manage payment methods more confidently, while still working within business and legal constraints.
Context
Wix Payments is Wix’s in-house payment solution, but it competes with third-party providers that users can also connect through the platform. On the Accept Payments page, Wix is legally required to place PayPal on the main page, while other third-party providers are hidden behind a link. Because Wix Payments was less familiar to many users, the onboarding entry point needed to work harder to communicate its value and encourage adoption.
The Accept Payments page
Where users begin the payment setup journey by choosing or connecting a provider. This page serves as the main entry point into Wix Payments.

The Payments Dashboard
Acts as the central hub for managing the payment lifecycle after connection. Here, users can monitor account status, resolve issues that may affect payments or payouts, and connect additional providers when needed

The Payments Manage area
Where users handle the operational side of their payment setup. This area gives them control over connected payment methods, account details, statement naming, and their payout schedule.

Problem
The biggest challenge at the start of the journey was discoverability and trust. Wix wanted to encourage users to connect Wix Payments, but the product name itself was relatively unknown and did not clearly communicate the value to users who were simply trying to start accepting payments. This created friction at a critical moment in the funnel. Essentially, users didn't know what Wix Payments was.

Goals
This project had both business and user goals:
-
Business goal: increase adoption of Wix Payments.
-
User goal: help users quickly understand how to start accepting payments and make confident decisions about setup and management.
Constraints
The content decisions had to work within several constraints:
-
PayPal had to appear on the main page for legal reasons.
-
Other third-party providers were intentionally hidden behind a link.
-
Wix wanted to push adoption of Wix Payments, but the name itself was not self-explanatory to all users.
-
The onboarding flow still needed to remain accurate and transparent even if top-level copy became more benefit-led.
My role
As UX Writer, I shaped the product content across the payment connection journey, with a particular focus on entry-point clarity and adoption. This included identifying content opportunities, testing alternative naming on the Accept Payments page, and supporting clearer UX across the dashboard and management surfaces.
Decision and rationale
One of the key content decisions was to test the title “Accept Credit/Debit Cards with Wix” instead of “Wix Payments.” The original product name was accurate, but less immediately meaningful to users unfamiliar with Wix’s in-house payment solution. The revised title was more benefit-led and action-oriented, helping users understand what they could do rather than forcing them to interpret the product name first.
This decision introduced a trade-off: the new title was slightly less precise than the official product name. However, the onboarding flow clarified what Wix Payments was, so the top-level page could be optimized for comprehension and conversion rather than strict naming purity..
Solution
The final content approach improved the payment journey in three connected areas:
1. Accept Payments page
The top-level entry point was reframed to lead with a clearer value proposition: accepting credit and debit cards through Wix. This helped users understand the purpose of the option faster and reduced reliance on prior familiarity with the Wix Payments brand name.
2. Payments Dashboard
The dashboard content supported users after connection by making the hub easier to understand as the place to check account status, fix issues, and connect additional providers. This area needed to support both monitoring and problem resolution during an ongoing money-management journey.
3. Payments Manage area
The management experience focused on clarity and control. Users could turn payment methods on or off, edit account details, customize statement naming, and adjust payout schedule, so the content needed to make those controls feel straightforward and trustworthy.
Outcome
Changing the title from “Wix Payments” to “Accept Credit/Debit Cards with Wix” increased Wix Payments connections by a bit more than 15 percent, helping push Wix Payments into what it has become today.
Reflection
This project reinforced that naming is not only about brand consistency; it is also about user comprehension at the exact moment a decision is made. In this case, a more descriptive, action-oriented label outperformed the official product name because it matched user intent more closely at the top of the funnel.
